Clark County Criminal Docket Searches
Adult matters in Clark County Circuit Court run through Wisconsin Circuit Court Access. That is the system known as WCCA. Choose Clark from the county menu when you already know where the case belongs. A full case number is the cleanest search key. Names can work too. But a stray suffix, a former name, or one misspelled letter may bury the result you want.
- Open WCCA and accept its access terms.
- Choose Clark County and enter a case number or party name.
- Use class, status, and filing-date filters to narrow a broad list.
- Confirm the county, case code, filing date, parties, and branch.
- Ask the Clerk of Courts when the summary does not answer the question.
The Clark County Clerk of Courts helps people in person, at 715-743-5181 or 715-743-5183, by email at heather.bravener@wicourts.gov, and through written or mailed requests. Include the case number, the item you want, and a date range. Authorized parties can pull documents through circuit eFiling when those filings are open to them.
Clark Criminal Codes in Plain Terms
Wisconsin case codes help you sort Clark County criminal docket results at a glance. A number like 2026-CF-000123 packs the year, the class, and a sequence into one line. That string is only a format example, not a real case.
- CF
- Felony criminal case.
- CM
- Misdemeanor criminal case.
- CT
- Criminal traffic case.
- TR or FO
- Traffic or forfeiture classes that should not be relabeled as ordinary crimes.
Verify the full class inside WCCA before drawing conclusions. An Abbotsford or Colby police citation may belong in municipal court, while a Sheriff or State Patrol matter can land in Clark County Circuit Court.
Criminal Dockets: What They Show
A Clark County case summary identifies the case, the parties, counsel, the judge, the charges, court record events, settings, disposition, judgment, and some financial entries. It has limits. An event may point to a complaint or an order without showing the document itself.
| Case number | The stable search key with year and class code. |
|---|---|
| Charge | The allegation as entered, not proof it is true. |
| Branch and judge | The assignment shown in the current record. |
| Events | Filings, appearances, motions, orders, and changed settings. |
| Disposition | The exact outcome language recorded by the court. |
| Financial data | Judgment or payment information when public. |
A filed charge is only an allegation. A pending status is no outcome, and a docket event never proves the facts a complaint claims.
Clark County Criminal Caseload
For volume, the official 2024 county caseload report counts 145 felony cases opened and 173 disposed. Misdemeanors came in at 99 opened and 95 disposed. Criminal traffic added 53 opened and 47 disposed, and the report also tracks transfers, reactivations, deactivations, and pending matters.
These are administrative rows, not counts of unique people. They say nothing about the merits or the outcome of any single Clark County criminal docket.
Criminal Case Stages on the Docket
A common Clark County adult case sequence is: charging document → initial appearance → counsel and bail entries → preliminary hearing or waiver when required → arraignment and plea → motions and pretrial settings → plea or trial → disposition → sentencing and judgment.
No criminal docket carries every step. A misdemeanor may skip a felony-only stage entirely, and a plea can replace a trial. Resets are common too. The old event stays in the history while a new setting gets added. After disposition, more entries can appear in the Clark County court record. Probation, restitution, review, or other post-judgment activity drives them.
For a hearing happening today, compare WCCA against the latest order or notice. Then confirm with the clerk or the assigned branch. An old event stays in the record. It is not proof of the current schedule.
Clark Recovery Court Case Activity
Clark County Recovery Court began in 2021 as a county program. Treatment, testing, case management, recovery support, and court oversight come together in one coordinated plan. It is not a second criminal docket database. The circuit case number remains the main record key. Referral or treatment details may be restricted.
The official program route appears below.

That route identifies the public program source without exposing a participant's data. The county also explains eligibility and five phases.

The program structure and the public criminal case summary remain different records.
Clark County Criminal Docket Courts
Clark County Circuit Court runs Branch 1 and Branch 2, both in Neillsville. The state circuit directory places Clark in the Seventh Judicial District. Always read the case for its assigned branch. That assignment controls who to contact about scheduling.
Municipal court sits apart and handles qualifying ordinance and traffic matters. Federal charges go through Western District PACER, not a Clark CF number. Appeals land in WSCCAA while the original circuit file stays with the county clerk.
The state explains the municipal tier here.

This source helps keep city ordinance records out of a circuit-only search.
When a Clark Case Is Missing
A blank result does not mean no case exists. Check the spelling, the number, the county, the code, and the year before giving up. If venue is unclear, try a statewide search. Then consider whether the matter is municipal, appellate, federal, juvenile, or confidential. It may also be sealed, expunged, or simply outside the public online view.
When you lack a case number, give the clerk enough detail to locate a single action. The current state fee chart lists a $5 search for one action. Confirm the charge first. Say exactly what you want, whether a complaint, an order, a judgment, or a date range.
Key point: A missing public result is a routing issue, not evidence that an event never occurred.
Access Rules for Criminal Dockets
Wisconsin favors open court access, but the door is not wide open. Wisconsin Statute §801.19 shields Social Security and driver-license numbers. Sections 801.20 and 801.21 cover confidential records plus sealing and redaction. Eligible expunction runs under §973.015.
Sealed documents, juvenile files, identifiers, and confidential reports may be withheld. That can hold even when other case data stays public. Clark local Rule 508 treats presentence reports as confidential. Remember that WCCA is public case information. It is not a certified copy or a complete criminal-history product.
Ask the Clerk what is public, what needs a copy request, and what requires court authorization. The clerk cannot give legal advice.
Supreme Court Rule Chapter 72 sets retention schedules as well. Because of those schedules, an old Clark County criminal docket may take a clerk search to reach.
Clark Branch Assignment Checks
Read a Clark County criminal docket for its current branch, because no city, agency, or code decides assignment. The state directory lists Branch 1 Judge Lyndsey A. B. Brunette and Branch 2 Judge William M. Bratcher. Both judges sit at the same courthouse. Each branch keeps its own scheduling contacts, so confirm the branch in the public case summary before calling anyone about a hearing.
Match your question to the right office. File, copy, and event questions go to the clerk, while a judge-specific schedule issue goes to that branch's contact. Staff can explain how to get access to court records, but they cannot advise you on what motion or plea to make. One wrinkle: the county page still carries an old Sixth Judicial District label, though the controlling state directory places Clark in the Seventh Judicial District.
Branch assignment and appellate assignment are different things. Once an appeal is filed, WSCCA holds the appellate docket, and the original Clark criminal record stays at circuit court. You may need both court records. Just don't merge their event lists, since each one belongs to a different court.
Heather Bravener serves as Clerk. Her office sits in Room 405 at 517 Court Street in Neillsville, open weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 715-743-5181 or 715-743-5183 with the full case number ready. For a mailed request, name the complaint, order, judgment, or dated entry you need, and ask for the current charge for a plain copy or certification.
Remember that a docket line and the filed paper behind it are not interchangeable. The Clerk can state the access route for court records and whether a public copy exists, but cannot interpret a charge, predict a ruling, or tell you what response to file. That kind of legal advice must come from a qualified lawyer.
